French Flair at NBA All-Star 2025
French basketball is poised to shine at the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend, held in San Francisco’s Chase Center from February 14th to 16th. Four French players are set to grace the court, three of whom will participate in the Rising Stars game, a showcase for rookies and sophomores.
Rising Stars: A Debut for Sarr
Among the French contingent is Alex Sarr, the second overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. The 19-year-old center is primed for an electrifying weekend at the Chase Center. He’ll kick off his All-Star journey in the Rising Stars game, alongside fellow Frenchman Zaccharie Risacher.
“France is very well represented. It’s special. I will be able to play with Zaccharie Risacher, it’s been a long time,” Sarr expressed.
A Historic Duo
Sarr and Risacher, both in the Eastern Conference, have forged a strong bond since last summer’s draft.This marks a significant milestone for French basketball, as both players were drafted in the top two spots. They’ll also team up in the Skills challenge on saturday evening.
“We have known each other for a long time, so I told myself that it was going to be fun to do that with him. I watched this competition a lot by growing up, I found it funny. So why not do it? We will also face Victor (wembanyama) who teams up with his teammate Chris Paul,” Risacher shared.
A Chance to Shine
A victory in the rising Stars game could propel Sarr and Risacher into the main All-Star Game on Sunday.This would present a thrilling prospect to face NBA legends like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant.
“The goal is to win this evening, to be able to come back on Sunday, it is indeed a very good opportunity for Rising stars, it is beneficial for us,” Sarr emphasized.
A Rookie’s Journey
Sarr’s first NBA season has been marked by significant progress. He’s embraced the challenges and learned from every game. “There is a lot of betterment at home. I gain experience,I learn every day what it is indeed to be an NBA player,” he stated.
A Promising Future
Sarr, a teammate of Olympic vice-champion Bilal Coulibaly, recognizes the potential of a french team. “It would be great to play in the French team with Bilal, he is my teammate and represent France with him, it would really be something special,” he added.

Alex Sarr: Thanks for having me! It’s exciting to be here,representing France in this showcase.
Moderator: Your rookie season has shown meaningful progress. What key takeaways have you gained from this experience?
Sarr: There’s constant betterment happening.Every game is a learning experience; you’re constantly adjusting, developing your skillset, and understanding what it means to be an NBA player. It’s humbling.
Moderator: you’ve mentioned how impactful playing with Zaccharie Risacher is. Beyond the obvious camaraderie,what specific skills and insights do you find complementary? Does this approach differ from other young players you’ve partnered with?
Sarr: Zaccharie and I have a shared history. We’ve known each other for a while, which definitely smooths out the learning curve. Zaccharie is incredibly talented, and our approaches to the game are very complimentary. We have a very similar play style, which allows for a seamless team performance. The chemistry is undeniable.
Moderator: The prospect of a French team is certainly intriguing.While you’re both focused on the Rising Stars game and beyond,do you see this as a potential blueprint for future French dominance in the NBA? Can we draw parallels with other international powers at the NBA All-Star stage,such as the Canadian team?
Sarr: Definitely,I believe so. French basketball has undeniable depth, and a strong depiction like ours could push the overall capabilities of the team and create more opportunities. What’s also special is that Bilal coulibaly and I are teammates from the past that I’m very excited to play with.
Moderator: You mentioned the importance of winning the Rising Stars game as a pathway to the main All-Star Game.Do you see this as a pressure cooker or an opportunity to prove yourself and your team?
Sarr: Absolutely, it’s a tremendous opportunity. It’s crucial to perform well; if we can dominate the rising Stars, it’ll create a massive platform to showcase our capabilities to the entire league and, crucially, the coaches at the league level! We want to prove we belong and can make things happen at the All-star Weekend.
Moderator: Many rising stars face the challenge of adjusting to the speed and intensity of the NBA game. What strategies do you employ to mitigate this pressure?
Sarr: Honesty, and trust are essential. you have to be consistently working and honing your skills in practice to perform at top levels. Consistency on the court is very important for me.Learning how to adjust under the pressure of the NBA level is very important. Maintaining focus and understanding your game plan are crucial components of success.
Moderator: Let’s talk about the Skills Challenge. Many players find it fun, but others see it as an additional hurdle under the pressure of the NBA competition.What’s your take on this?
Sarr: I think the Skills Challenge is a lot of fun, to be honest. I’ve watched it countless times as I was a kid. I’m always looking to have an engaging time on the court, which is one of the reasons this challenge is so tempting to partake in.
Moderator: We’ve seen some amazing individual performances in the Rising Stars game throughout the years. What are some historical events or performances that stand out to you as influential for your career path?
Sarr: I constantly look at past rising stars to understand their journey.Specifically, I study how they overcame challenges and how they developed their skills in the NBA. We have to look at what other players, in other times, have experienced.
Moderator: The draft positioning ofen creates a spotlight. Given your second overall selection, do you feel any added pressure from expectations? How do you channel that energy into performance?
Sarr: Expectations are a part of the NBA; I don’t see them as pressure. More than anything, I aim to perform my best. I approach it with confidence and trust. I don’t let outside noise distract me.
Moderator: Do you prefer playing for your home team in France, or participating in the NBA All-Star competition?
Sarr: Both offer unique experiences. While playing in France is fantastic and familiar, the NBA All-Star game allows for a massive platform to perform on a global stage.
moderator: What are your immediate and long-term goals in the NBA?
sarr: Immediate goals are to constantly develop, learn, and perform. Long-term,I ultimately seek to achieve greatness in the NBA. I want to be counted as one of the greats!
