The 2025/2026 Ligue 1 Season: A Busy Year for PSG
The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has unveiled the schedule for the 2025/2026 Ligue 1 season,a calendar that promises to be particularly demanding for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) players. A Season of Challenges
The 2025/2026 Ligue 1 season will mirror the current season’s structure, featuring 34 matchdays. The season will kick off on the weekend of August 15-17, 2025, and conclude on May 15-16, 2026. However, PSG’s calendar will diverge from the rest of the league due to their participation in the Club World Cup in the United States, starting on June 15, 2025.
PSG’s Packed Summer
PSG stands as the sole French club qualified for the Club World Cup, which will feature 32 teams and culminate on July 13, 2025.This tight schedule means PSG will have only four weeks to prepare for the resumption of Ligue 1, following a brief three-week vacation period post-competition. The LFP has also noted that the 2026 World Cup will necessitate player provisions starting May 25, 2026, just ten days after the final Ligue 1 matchday.
Unique Matchday Scheduling
The 2025/2026 season introduces a few scheduling novelties. Notably, the 10th matchday will be held on a weekday, Wednesday, October 29, 2025.The last matchday of 2025 will be the 16th, scheduled for the weekend of December 14, 2025. The league will then resume with the 17th matchday on the weekend of January 4, 2026.
Early Transfer Window Opens
In another significant change, the summer transfer window in France will open on June 1, 2025, rather than mid-June. This adjustment is directly linked to PSG’s participation in the Club World Cup. FIFA has granted club associations involved in the competition the ability to establish an additional transfer window from June 1 to 10,2025. Consequently, all French clubs, including PSG, will be able to engage in player recruitment from June 1, 2025.
Ongoing discussions on Transfer Windows
The closing date for the summer transfer window remains undecided, with the LFP currently in discussions with other European leagues to determine the end date for both the summer and winter transfer windows.
