Fan Violence Mars Drittliga Match
Representatives from FC Hansa Rostock and Dynamo Dresden expressed shock at the violent clashes during their Drittliga match. The 1-0 victory for Hansa was marred by a 28-minute interruption after the half-time whistle, necessitating police intervention.
Targeted Attacks and Injuries
Fireworks were deliberately launched from the Rostock section, targeting players and Dresden fans, both before the game and during the break. Dresden supporters also used pyrotechnics. Reports indicate injuries to police officers and Dynamo fans.
Dresden fans, according to Hansa, smashed two plexiglass barriers to gain access to the Rostock section. Initial speculation that a disallowed Dresden banner sparked the police intervention proved unfounded.
“Failure of All Security Organs”
“sport rivalry is part of the game and okay. But the scenes we saw don’t belong in a stadium. My son was sitting above the tunnel, and he cried as he was scared,” said Hansa coach Daniel Brinkmann. Dynamo captain Stefan Kutschke, who tried to mediate within his own section, lamented, “When a player is targeted with a flare before the game, we have to approach the game differently. But that wasn’t from our section, it was Hansa Rostock.”
Dynamo issued a statement: “Such an aggressive and targeted attack on our fans is completely incomprehensible and unacceptable. When people deliberately attack others with fireworks, risking serious injury, it points to a failure of all security organs.”
Pre-Game Aggression and Half-Time Chaos
Even before the game,a Dresden player was targeted with flares, putting them in danger. dynamo’s managing director, David Fischer, described the half-time scenes as even more alarming.
The police intervention led to the destruction of the sector separation, according to a Rostock police spokesperson. This was necessary to prevent violent clashes between opposing fans in the buffer zone. Hansa CEO Jürgen Wehlend stated, “What happened at the break was disastrous.”
