Latina’s mayor, Matilde Celentano, adn councilor for sport, Andrea Chiarato, recently secured a significant €4,048,000 investment for energy-efficient upgrades to municipal sports facilities. This funding, part of teh Fesr Lazio 2020-2027 program, marks a meaningful step towards sustainability.
A Comprehensive Plan for 20 Facilities
The project encompasses a wide range of facilities, including:
- Three school gyms
- Baseball and “Mario Zago” baseball fields
- Francioni Stadium
- Athletics track and skate park
- Multiple football fields

The project’s meticulous planning involved a thorough assessment of the needs and current state of each facility. The Municipal Department of Heritage and State Property identified the needs,while the municipal maintenance department crafted the design plans. This collaborative effort prioritizes energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
A Landmark Investment
Councilor Chiarato highlighted the €4 million investment as the largest ever in Latina for sports facility energy efficiency. The project will allocate funds strategically across various facilities:
- Francioni stadium facade: €430,560
- Athletics track and skate park: €502,320
- Rugby and baseball fields: €331,890
- School gyms (Latina Scalo, Borgo Sabotino, Don Milani): €843,180
- Football fields: €1,940,050
Next Steps
The city council has mandated updates to the three-year program, incorporating these energy-efficiency projects. The maintenance department will prepare the necessary documentation for submission to the Lazio Region.
