Tessa: It was definitely a big step, leaving behind my boyfriend, family, and even my beloved dog! But it was a decision I didn’t take lightly. I needed to be sure it was the right move for my career and my personal growth. I wanted to challenge myself in a new environment and test my abilities at the highest level. I’m loving the experience in Milan, though I definitely miss home sometimes.
Host: Speaking of home, your contract with Inter runs until mid-2026.Could we see you returning to Belgium after that?
Tessa: It’s possible. Belgium will always hold a special place in my heart. I’ve had astonishing experiences playing for Anderlecht and Standard, and I would love to contribute to the growth of the women’s game there.
Host: You’ve been vrey vocal about your desire to see a top-tier women’s league established in Belgium. Why is this so crucial for the sport in your homeland?
Tessa:
It’s essential for the development of young talent. right now, manny belgian players, myself included, have had to move abroad to play professionally and reach our full potential. We need a strong domestic league with proper resources and infrastructure to allow players to thrive at home.
Host: The Belgian red Flames are on the rise, qualifying for the European Championships in Switzerland. What are your expectations for the team?
Tessa: We’re going to Switzerland with a clear goal: to advance beyond the group stage and make a real impact in the tournament. We have a talented squad with a lot of experience now, and we’re determined to build on our quarter-final finish in 2022.
Host: Rounding out our conversation, Tessa, what message do you have for young aspiring footballers in Belgium, especially young girls who dream of playing at the highest level?
Tessa: My biggest advice is to never give up on your dreams. work hard, believe in yourself, and always strive to improve. don’t be afraid to take risks and step outside your comfort zone. The world of football is full of opportunities, and with dedication and passion, anything is absolutely possible.
