Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa made history this Tuesday by securing her first-ever Grand Slam semi-final spot after defeating world No. 3 Coco Gauff in a thrilling match at the Australian Open in Melbourne.
The 11th-seeded Badosa clinched a hard-fought victory wiht a score of 7-5,6-4,stunning the crowd and halting Gauff’s impressive winning streak. The American, who had been undefeated since November and claimed the US Open title in 2023, was unable to counter Badosa’s relentless performance.
This triumph marks a notable milestone for Badosa, as it is her first career win against a top 10 player in a Grand Slam event. The victory propels her into the final four of a major tournament for the very first time, solidifying her status as a rising force in women’s tennis.
Badosa, who previously held the No. 2 world ranking before injuries impacted her standing, is now set to face either Belarusian powerhouse aryna Sabalenka or russian veteran Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (ranked 32nd) in the semi-finals.Both opponents present unique challenges,with sabalenka known for her aggressive playstyle and Pavlyuchenkova for her experience and consistency.
