Alexander Zverev has made history by advancing to his first Australian Open final following Novak DjokovicS withdrawal. the Serbian legend, a 24-time Grand slam champion, conceded the semi-final match after losing the first set in a tense tiebreak (6:7).
“I’m thrilled to be in the final, but I have immense respect for Novak,” Zverev remarked during his post-match interview at Rod Laver Arena. He also urged the crowd, “Please don’t judge a player harshly if they’re forced to retire due to injury.”
Djokovic sustained a left thigh injury during his grueling quarter-final clash against Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz. Speaking to Eurosport, Zverev observed, “He seemed a bit slower between points, but his court coverage was still notable. It’s hard to assess his condition now.” He added, “Novak has dedicated his life to tennis for over two decades. If he can’t continue, it’s because he truly can’t.”
