You recently made a trip back to St.Mary’s Stadium, and the outpouring of love from Southampton fans was evident. Tell us about those feelings, returning to a place you clearly hold dear.
Maya: It was incredibly emotional.Southampton will always hold a special place in my heart. It was my first taste of Premier League football, and I forged some incredible memories and friendships there. Seeing the fans, feeling their warmth – it was truly special.
You went on to achieve great things with the LA Galaxy, lifting the MLS Cup and Western Conference Championship. Has that success changed yoru perspective on your time at Southampton?
Maya: Not at all. Every experience shapes you as a player. Southampton was crucial for my development.
Some might say that your success Stateside has onyl amplified your legendary status at Southampton. Do you feel that way?
Maya: I wouldn’t say legendary, but I’m incredibly grateful for the support I received from Southampton fans. They always appreciated my work ethic and dedication, and I hope I contributed positively to the club.
Your defensive prowess and your “never give up” attitude were trademarks of your playing style at Southampton. Have you carried those traits with you to LA?
Maya: Absolutely! Those are non-negotiables for me.Defense is about heart, about grit, and I beleive that’s something you can bring to any team, regardless of the league.
