Seissanaise Gymnastics, a vibrant community hub, boasts approximately fifty members, with a notable majority being women. Led by Chairperson Chantal Brugna, Treasurer Ketti Perrotin, and Secretary Christian Devèze, the club has faced its share of challenges, including the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and a fire that destroyed their original meeting space in the village hall.
Fortunately, the local government stepped in swiftly, offering the judo room as a temporary venue with the consent of the judo club’s president. Sessions, held twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, last an hour and attract a steady crowd. Membership fees, supplemented by municipal support, ensure the club’s financial stability.Beyond fitness, the gym fosters camaraderie and serves as a cornerstone of community entertainment. Recently, Justine Labriffe, a seissanaise native and specialist in adapted physical activities and health, took charge of the sessions. Labriffe, who works with individuals with disabilities, embraced the opportunity to expand her professional horizons. “When I heard about the gym, I saw it as a new challenge and a chance to explore a different aspect of my field,” she shared. The daughter of a former Auscitain rugby player,Labriffe has introduced a fresh energy to the group, tailoring sessions to include muscle strengthening, relaxation, and stretching. Her approach has been met with enthusiasm.“Justine’s expertise and cheerful demeanor have brought a renewed vitality to our club,” praised Brugna. “The variety she offers keeps everyone engaged and motivated.”
