West Java – Erick Thohir, the General Chair of PSSI, recently revealed that the Indonesian National Team had the potential to include naturalized players of Italian descent in the past.
Thohir’s remarks to European outlets sparked speculation about the potential halt in Mitchel Bakker’s naturalization process for the Indonesian squad.
Under the guidance of Patrick Kluivert, the Indonesian national team has actively pursued players of European origin to bolster the Garuda lineup.
Kluivert’s appointment as Shin Tae-yong’s successor was partly driven by the goal of attracting European talent, notably from the Netherlands, to the Indonesian team.
Several Dutch-descent players, including Ole Romeny and Jairo Riedewald, have reportedly expressed interest in joining the national squad.
Dito Ariotedjo, the Minister of Youth and Sports, has confirmed that the arrival of these two players under Kluivert’s leadership is highly likely.
“Jairo (Riedewald) is on board, and the news about Mitchel Bakker’s naturalization has been verified,” stated Minister Ariotedjo.
