Residents are calling for urgent upgrades to the flooring, basketball boards, and other facilities, as well as the implementation of a robust management system to ensure proper maintenance.

the basketball court at Batu Garden has been in a state of disrepair for an extended period, with damaged backboards and rims, a slippery surface, and numerous potholes. During heavy rainfall, water accumulates on the court, leading to frequent complaints from local residents.
Moreover, the surrounding recreational sports facilities have also suffered significant damage over time, rendering them unusable. For instance, the swings are missing their seats, further limiting the area’s functionality for community use.
Xu Guorong, vice chairman of the Pangalam Cheong Ming Community Committee, highlighted the ongoing issues. He explained that the basketball court’s backboards and rims have been broken for years, and residents have resorted to using iron nails to temporarily secure them. However, these makeshift repairs are unstable and raise serious safety concerns for players.
Xu also pointed out that the court’s surface is riddled with cracks and uneven patches, making it dangerously slippery. This has resulted in multiple incidents of players slipping and falling during games. To address this, he emphasized the need for anti-skid paint to be applied to the surface, which would substantially reduce the risk of injuries.
“Whenever there is heavy rain, water pools on the court, making it unusable and creating additional hazards,” Xu added. The community has repeatedly voiced their concerns, urging local authorities to take immediate action to repair and upgrade the facilities.
In addition to the basketball court, the broader recreational area requires attention. the damaged swings, broken benches, and other neglected equipment have left residents with limited options for outdoor activities. This has sparked calls for a comprehensive renovation plan to restore the area to a safe and functional state.
