Niskayuna‘s Balanced Attack Overwhelms burnt hills
Niskayuna’s girls’ basketball team showcased their depth and teamwork in a decisive 74-36 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake. Four Niskayuna players reached double figures, highlighting the squad’s commitment to a shared offensive approach.
“Our coach emphasizes teamwork and ball movement,” explained Niskayuna guard Ava Roemer, referencing coach Lindsay Steenland’s ideology. “Today, we saw the benefits of that approach. It encourages us to play more instinctively and capitalize on scoring opportunities.”
While sophomores Natalie Birmingham and skye Linyear have been offensive stalwarts this season, Tuesday’s game saw ciarra Gonzalez and Ava Roemer take the lead. Gonzalez dominated with a game-high 23 points, including an impressive 18 in the second half. Roemer contributed 19 points, with 14 coming in the first half. Birmingham added 12 points, and Linyear chipped in with 11.
Niskayuna established their dominance early, building a commanding 28-9 lead after the first quarter.
“The constant ball movement allowed us to connect and find our rhythm,” Gonzalez noted. “Games like this are valuable becuase they showcase the diverse offensive options we possess as a team.”
Roemer echoed this sentiment, stating, ”In games like this, the emphasis on ball movement and creating plays is clear. It’s an prospect for everyone to contribute.”
Although Niskayuna’s offensive pace slowed slightly in the second quarter, they surged back after halftime, ultimately securing a cozy victory.
Gonzalez’s 23-point performance matched his season-high, previously achieved against Guilderland on December 17th. Roemer’s 19 points marked a new personal best for the season.
“There will be games that are tougher,and games were we don’t perform at our best,” Gonzalez reflected. “After a game like this, you’re reminded of how much fun basketball is and how much you enjoy playing.”
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake was led by grace Kogut with 11 points and Taniyah Monforte with 10 points.
With this win, niskayuna improves to 4-2 in the Suburban Council and 7-3 overall. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake falls to 0-6 in the league and 1-8 overall.
