Mike Richards: The pleasure is all mine. Its always great to chat hockey.
Moderator: Let’s start with the Columbus Blue Jackets. They managed to pull off an extraordinary win against the Kraken, despite being in eighth place. what are your thoughts on their performance, especially the standout play from Elvis Merzlikin?
Mike Richards: I’ve always been impressed with Merzlikin’s potential. He is a big-game goalie, but consistency has been a slight issue for him. Last night’s performance was exactly what the Blue Jackets need from him – solid saves, composure, and a calming presence in net. It’s a good sign for them moving forward. Offensively, they showed a lot of depth, with contributions coming from all lines. That’s key for playoff success.
Moderator: Do you think they have what it takes to make a deep playoff run?
Mike Richards: it’s not going to be easy. The East is packed with talent. They need to maintain this level of play, but they also need to stay healthy. Injuries can derail even the best teams.
Moderator: On to the Lightning. They extended their winning streak with a decisive victory over the Boston Bruins. Zemgus Girgensons has been quietly stepping up for Tampa bay. What has impressed you about his game lately?
Mike Richards: Girgensons has always been a hard-working, gritty player, but he’s really found his scoring touch lately. He’s not afraid to go to the net and he’s finding ways to capitalize on power-play opportunities. That’s a valuable asset for any team.
moderator: The Lightning are looking like legitimate contenders again this year. can they repeat as Stanley Cup champions?
Mike Richards: They definitely have the experience and the talent. But it takes a lot of things to fall into place to win the Cup – avoiding injuries, having timely scoring, and of course a little bit of luck. It’s a long road, but they’re certainly contenders.
