Redacción.- Matías Grande Kalionchiz, originario de Guanajuato, ha sido distinguido como uno de los mejores del 2024 por la Federación americana de Tiro con Arco (World Archery Americas).
El arquero guanajuatense comparte este reconocimiento con destacadas figuras como la experimentada Alejandra valencia y el para arquero Samuel Molina, quienes también fueron seleccionados por sus sobresalientes logros.
Grande Kalionchiz alcanzó la máxima distinción en la categoría recurvo Varonil Sub-21, tras un año excepcional en el que debutó en los Juegos Olímpicos y se coronó campeón continental al obtener la medalla de oro en el Panamericano de Medellín.
Por otro lado, Alejandra Valencia, originaria de Sonora y doble medallista olímpica en París 2024, se impuso en la categoría Recurvo Femenil, superando a su rival más cercana, la estadounidense Casey Kaufhold, quien ocupa el segundo lugar en el ranking mundial.
Además de su destacada participación en los Juegos Olímpicos, donde junto a Ana Vázquez y Ángela Ruiz logró el tercer lugar, Valencia también obtuvo la medalla de bronce en la Final de la Copa del Mundo en Tlaxcala, así como en las Copas del Mundo de Antalya y yecheon. En esta última, además, se alzó con el oro en la modalidad de equipos mixtos junto a Grande Kalionchiz.
En el ámbito de la para arquería, México brilló con Samuel Molina Núñez, quien recibió el galardón en la categoría Recurvo Masculino Open. Molina participó en sus segundos Juegos Paralímpicos en París 2024 y cerró el año en el segundo puesto del ranking mundial, después de liderarlo durante varios meses antes de ser superado por el indio Harvinder Singh.
Exclusive Interview with Alejandra Valencia: Reflecting on a Stellar Year in Archery
Moderator: Welcome, everyone, to another edition of Sports Insights! Today, we have the honor of hosting one of Mexico’s most celebrated athletes, Alejandra Valencia, a double Olympic medalist and one of the world’s top archers. Alejandra,thank you for joining us today.
Alejandra Valencia: Thank you for having me! It’s always a pleasure to share my journey and connect with fans and fellow sports enthusiasts.
Moderator: Let’s dive right in. 2024 has been an unbelievable year for you. You were recently recognized by World Archery Americas as one of the best archers of the year, alongside Matías Grande kalionchiz and Samuel Molina. How does it feel to receive such a prestigious honor?
Alejandra Valencia: It’s truly humbling. Being recognized alongside such talented athletes like Matías and Samuel is a testament to the hard work and dedication we’ve all put into our craft. For me, it’s not just about the individual accolades but also about representing Mexico on the global stage and inspiring the next generation of archers.
Moderator: Speaking of Matías Grande Kalionchiz, he had an outstanding year as well, winning gold at the Pan American Games and making his Olympic debut. You two also teamed up to win gold in the mixed team event at the Yecheon World Cup. What was it like working with him, and how do you see his future in the sport?
Alejandra Valencia: Matías is an incredible talent. his focus, discipline, and passion for archery are evident in everything he does. Working with him in Yecheon was a fantastic experience—we complemented each other’s strengths and pushed each other to perform at our best. I have no doubt that he has a radiant future ahead. He’s already achieved so much at such a young age, and I’m excited to see where his career takes him.
Moderator: You mentioned your mixed team success, but let’s talk about your individual achievements. You secured bronze at the paris 2024 Olympics and also won medals at the World Cup events in Antalya, Yecheon, and Tlaxcala. What do you attribute your consistency to, especially in such a high-pressure sport?
Alejandra Valencia: Consistency comes from a combination of mental strength, rigorous training, and a strong support system. archery is as much a mental game as it is physical. I’ve worked closely with my coaches to develop strategies for staying calm under pressure and maintaining focus during competitions.Of course, having my teammates and family behind me has been invaluable—they keep me grounded and motivated.
moderator: You’ve been a dominant force in women’s recurve archery, consistently outperforming top competitors like Casey Kaufhold. What do you think sets you apart from your rivals?
Alejandra Valencia: I believe it’s my ability to adapt and learn from every experience. Every competition teaches you something new, whether it’s about your technique, your mindset, or your opponents. I’ve also worked hard to develop a unique style that plays to my strengths. But ultimately, it’s about staying true to yourself and trusting the process.
Moderator: Let’s shift gears slightly and talk about Samuel Molina, who was recognized in the para archery category. He’s been a trailblazer for mexico in para sports, finishing second in the world rankings this year. What are your thoughts on his achievements and the growing prominence of para archery?
Alejandra valencia: Samuel is an inspiration to us all. His determination and resilience are unmatched, and he’s done so much to elevate para archery in Mexico and beyond. It’s incredible to see how the sport is growing and gaining recognition. Para athletes like Samuel are breaking barriers and proving that archery is a sport for everyone.
Moderator: As we wrap up,I’d like to ask you about the future.What are your goals for the coming years, and how do you plan to continue pushing the boundaries of your sport?
Alejandra Valencia: My ultimate goal is to keep representing Mexico at the highest level and to continue competing for medals at major events like the Olympics and World Championships. I also want to give back to the sport by mentoring young archers and helping to grow the archery community in Mexico. There’s still so much I want to achieve, and I’m excited for what’s to come.
