Despite the setback in Paris, where City squandered a 2-0 lead, the club received a boost with the acquisition of Omar Marmoush. The 25-year-old Egyptian striker, previously with Eintracht Frankfurt, has joined Manchester city immediately, as confirmed by both clubs.
Marmoush’s departure is a major blow to Frankfurt’s sporting ambitions but a financial windfall. While the exact transfer fee remains undisclosed,reports suggest it’s around €75 million. Marmoush joined Frankfurt from VfL Wolfsburg on a free transfer in 2023 and was under contract untill 2027.
Record-Breaking Performance in 2024/25
In his debut season with Frankfurt, Marmoush netted 17 goals and provided six assists in 41 matches. His performance soared in the first half of the 2024/25 season, with 20 goals and 14 assists in 26 games across all competitions. His 15 goals in 17 Bundesliga matches set a new club record for the first half of the season, and his nine goal contributions from set pieces were unmatched in the league.
“Playing for a club like Manchester City has always been my dream,” Marmoush shared in a club video. Eintracht’s sporting director, Markus Krösche, explained, “Omar approached us about the move, emphasizing it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join a Premier League giant.He’s been instrumental in our progress, so we respected his wishes.”
Frankfurt bid farewell to Marmoush with gratitude. “He’ll always have a place here,” Krösche added, noting that the club had been open to his departure if the right offer came, as hinted in a November 2024 interview.
Marmoush’s final appearance for Frankfurt came after their 2-0 victory over Borussia dortmund. Even though he didn’t play, he received a heartfelt send-off from fans and teammates.“It was a special moment, even in the locker room. The camaraderie here is incredible, and everyone genuinely appreciates him,” said coach Dino Toppmöller.
This marks Frankfurt’s second major transfer in 18 months, following Randal Kolo Muani’s €95 million move to PSG in 2023. Like Marmoush, Muani also joined Frankfurt on a free transfer.
Toppmöller acknowledged Marmoush’s impact beyond the pitch. “Omar’s attitude is exemplary. He’s a team player who never puts himself above the group,” the coach said after a 4-1 win over SC Freiburg, where Marmoush scored once and assisted twice.
