Manchester United Eye Loan Move for Long-Term Target Goncalo Inacio
Manchester United are reportedly exploring a loan deal for sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio, according to Portuguese publication A Bola. The Red Devils, who have yet to make any signings in the January transfer window, see Inacio as a potential reinforcement for their backline.
While Inacio boasts a £50.4 million release clause, Sporting CP are open to negotiating a deal around £33.5 million. Interestingly, A Bola suggests United could secure Inacio on loan with an obligation to buy him permanently for the same fee at the end of the season.
This isn’t the first time Inacio has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. The 23-year-old left-footed center-back was heavily rumored to be a target in 2022 when united were actively seeking a player with his specific skillset. Ultimately, Erik ten Hag’s preference for Lisandro Martinez led to the Argentine’s arrival.
However, with Martinez firmly established as the starting left-sided center-back in Ten Hag’s preferred 3-4-2-1 formation, the opportunity for Inacio to compete for a starting role at United could be appealing.
Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has publicly identified Inacio as a key player for his squad, highlighting his importance to the team’s defensive structure.
A loan move with an option to buy could be a mutually beneficial solution. it would allow United to assess Inacio’s capabilities in the Premier League before committing to a permanent transfer, while Sporting CP would retain a valuable asset while potentially securing a significant fee in the future.
Inacio’s strengths lie in his ball-playing abilities, aerial prowess, and composure under pressure. His versatility allows him to operate comfortably in any position across the back three, and he’s even capable of deputizing as a left wing-back due to his attacking instincts.
Given his familiarity with Amorim’s tactical system and his proven track record at sporting CP, Inacio appears to be a logical target for Manchester united as they seek to bolster their defensive options.
