Lucena Basketball Club Hosts Charity Tournament to Support Young Athletes
this Saturday, January 4th, the Lucena Basketball Club will host the IV CBL Three Kings Tournament ”Solidarity Sneakers” at the Moriles sports hall. Due to ongoing construction at their usual venue, the club has relocated the event to ensure the tournament can proceed as planned.
This annual event not only promises exciting basketball action but also serves as a platform for community support. Participants, spectators, and local businesses are encouraged to donate new or gently used athletic shoes, clothing, and equipment to benefit children impacted by the recent DANA floods in Valencia. The Lucena Basketball Club has partnered with VALENCIA ACOGE to ensure these donations reach those in need.
Donations can be made throughout the tournament, from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, at the Moriles sports hall. drop-off points will also be available at various locations in lucena and Moriles throughout the week, including the Desintor Veterinary Clinic, Ocasiones Rincón, Rafael Valverde Men’s Hairdresser, and Mercería Dori. For those who prefer to contribute financially, the club has established a dedicated email address for inquiries.
To enhance the festive atmosphere, a reasonably priced refreshment stand will offer a variety of treats, from hot chocolate and coffee to sandwiches and grilled snacks. Attendees can also look forward to surprise giveaways throughout the day.
The Lucena Basketball Club extends its gratitude to the participating clubs: UCB Córdoba, Colegio Diocesano San José, CB Sierra Norte de Málaga, and Club Deportivo Juventud Baloncesto Baenense, for their support in making this charitable event a success.
Shooting Hoops for Hope: A Conversation with coach Maria Gomez on the IV CBL Three Kings Tournament
This Saturday, the spirit of generosity will blend seamlessly with the thrill of the game as the Lucena Basketball Club hosts the IV CBL Three Kings Tournament “Solidarity Sneakers.” To delve deeper into this wonderful initiative, we’re joined by Coach Maria Gomez, a revered figure in the Spanish basketball scene and a passionate advocate for community outreach.
Welcome, Coach Gomez. Your dedication to both basketball and community service is truly inspiring. Can you tell our readers a bit about the origins of the “Solidarity Sneakers” tournament?
“Thank you for having me. The tournament started four years ago as a way to bring the community together during the holiday season. This year, with the devastating floods in Valencia still fresh in everyone’s minds, we felt it was more important than ever to extend a helping hand to those affected. Partnering with VALENCIA ACOGE seemed like a natural fit, as they’ve been doing unbelievable work supporting flood victims.”
It’s truly commendable that the tournament has evolved into such a significant charitable event. What impact do you hope to make through this initiative?
“Our primary goal is to collect as much new or gently used athletic gear as possible for the children impacted by the floods. These children have lost so much, and providing them with the tools to participate in sports can be immensely therapeutic and empowering. Beyond the material aid, we also aim to foster a sense of unity and support within our community. We want to show these families that they are not alone, and that we’re all in this together.”
You mentioned the DANA floods caused significant disruptions, forcing the tournament’s relocation. How challenging has it been to adapt and ensure its success?
“It certainly presented some hurdles. Relocating to the moriles sports hall required coordinating with multiple stakeholders and adjusting our plans accordingly. But I have to say, the response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive. Everyone has rallied behind the cause, and we’ve received tremendous support from local businesses and volunteers. It speaks volumes about the spirit of solidarity that exists here.”
The tournament promises to be a truly festive affair with refreshments, giveaways, and some exhilarating basketball action. What message do you want to leave our readers with?
“I want everyone to know that even a small gesture can make a world of difference. Whether it’s donating a pair of shoes, volunteering your time, or simply spreading the word, every bit of support counts. Join us this Saturday at the Moriles sports hall, let’s celebrate the spirit of giving, and show these children that hope still shines through even in the face of adversity.”
