He emigrated from Hong Kong in 1952, embarking on a 19-day voyage to Vancouver just 20 days after becoming a father. This selfless act paved the way for a brighter future for his family. Five years later, he was finally reunited with his wife, Rae, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter.
Thier family grew with the arrival of sons Wayne and Ken, and their daughter ying joined them in Canada, completing their circle. Larry’s dedication to providing for his family was unwavering. He honed his culinary skills, mastering the art of Canadian Chinese cuisine while working in restaurants across Windsor, New York City, and Stratford.
In 1970, Larry and Rae realized their dream of opening Gene’s Restaurant on Erie Street.
