Inside the Paint: A Conversation with Jerry Stackhouse
Welcome back, basketball fans, to Inside the Paint! Today, we have a special guest joining us, a man who knows a thing or two about dominating the court – NBA legend and current Memphis Grizzlies Head Coach, Jerry Stackhouse.Coach Stackhouse, thanks for taking the time to join us today.
Jerry Stackhouse: The pleasure is all mine. Always happy to talk hoops.
moderator: December was a phenomenal month for the NBA, with Karl-Anthony Towns and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander taking home Player of the Month honors. What are your thoughts on these two players and their unbelievable performances?
Jerry Stackhouse: You’re looking at two guys who are absolutely on fire right now. Gilgeous-Alexander, he’s playing like a man possessed. That 33.3 points per game average is insane, and he’s doing it with such efficiency too. 56% from the field? That’s just ridiculous! And Towns? What a force! He’s leading the Knicks to wins with those double-doubles night after night. This reminds me of his early days – pure dominance in the paint.
Moderator: absolutely. Gilgeous-Alexander seems like a real contender for MVP this year. Do you think he can maintain this level of play throughout the season?
Jerry Stackhouse: You know, it’s a long season, and staying healthy is key. But I’m seeing something special in Shai this year. He’s not just scoring, he’s leading that Thunder team with poise and confidence. If he keeps playing at this level, sure, he’s a definite MVP candidate.
Moderator: and what about towns? He’s always been a talented player, but his consistency this season, especially with those double-doubles, has been remarkable.
Jerry Stackhouse: Towns always had that talent, but I think he’s finaly found his groove in New York. The system, the teammates, everything seems to be clicking for him. And those 18 consecutive double-doubles? That’s old-school dominance, like back in my days when guys like Tim Duncan were racking them up.
Moderator: Speaking of old-school, you mentioned the 1990s. Do you see any similarities between Towns and a player like Pat Ewing, who was known for his dominance in the paint back then?
Jerry Stackhouse: Definitely. They both have that Presence in the paint, that ability to get buckets down low and control the rebounding battle. Towns has a more versatile offensive game, though. Ewing was primarily known for his hook shot and post moves, while Towns can also step out and hit the three pointer.
Moderator: captivating point. Now, let’s open this up to our viewers. What do you think about the performances of Towns and Gilgeous-alexander?
