Holliday’s MLB debut didn’t go as planned.Initially left off the Opening Day roster, he was quickly called up but struggled, leading to a return to the minors for growth.In AAA, Holliday excelled, boasting a.271 batting average and an impressive .431 on-base percentage in 2024. however, this success didn’t translate to the majors, where he hit a disappointing .190 with a .255 on-base percentage.
Despite the rough start, Holliday possesses the raw talent to become a star. He’s surrounded by a talented roster, but the onus is on the 21-year-old to prove he can live up to the hype and become the impact player many expect him to be.

Jim: Thanks for having me. Always happy to talk baseball.

Jim: Holliday is a name everyone in baseball circles is talking about, and rightfully so. He was the number one overall pick for a reason. You don’t get that high without phenomenal talent.
But, there’s no denying his initial major league stint wasn’t what anyone expected. He struggled mightily, and that stint back in Triple-A, while productive, doesn’t always guarantee immediate success at the highest level. it takes time, it takes adjustments. The jump from Triple-A to the majors is huge, Jim.
Moderator: Absolutely. The pace of the game, the quality of pitching – it’s a whole different beast. But Jim, let’s be honest, the Orioles need results now. They have a window of opportunity with a young, exciting core. Can Holliday realistically deliver that impact they need, especially if Santander departs?
Jim: Look, I’m not throwing in the towel on Holliday by any means. He’s got the raw tools – the bat speed, the instincts, the arm – but he needs to refine his approach. He needs to learn to recognize pitches, make consistent contact, and elevate his game to the next level. He needs to learn how to handle the pressure, too.
Moderator: That mental aspect is crucial, isn’t it? Especially for a young player under such a microscope in a critical market like Baltimore.
Jim: Without a doubt. And that’s where good coaching and a supportive clubhouse come in.The Orioles have done a good job developing young talent in recent years. They need to create an surroundings where holliday feels empowered to succeed, where he can learn from his mistakes and grow as a player.
Moderator: So, you see potential there, but a lot will depend on his development and the support system around him?
Jim: Exactly. It’s a two-way street. Holliday needs to put in the work, but the organization needs to provide the right guidance and atmosphere for him to flourish.
