Where will the Terns’ journey end? Ploubazlanec (Côtes-d’Armor)? The local badminton club has recently achieved a historic milestone, securing a spot in the pre-Nationale league.Under the guidance of Jean-Pierre Lec’hvien,the team continues to shine,wiht one player standing out: Elodie Jacob.
Elodie has been a cornerstone of the club since its early days, witnessing its evolution firsthand.
I joined in 2017,recalls the team’s longest-serving member. Back then, we were competing in D1.Over the past eight seasons, we’ve achieved five promotions, bringing us to the pre-national level.
This rapid ascent hasn’t intimidated this modest club, which stands out despite its smaller scale compared to larger, more established teams.
Elodie,the team’s driving force,brings invaluable experience from her six years at Rostrenen and three seasons at Saint-Brieuc. “I’m incredibly grateful to my family,parents,and partner for their unwavering support throughout this remarkable journey,” she adds.
Aiming for Nationale 3: The next Challenge
For nearly a decade, the Ploubazlanec club has consistently been a dominant force.“Despite multiple promotions, we hit a plateau in R1 for a couple of years. though, the off-season tournaments have reignited our momentum,” Elodie explains.
This temporary setback never dampened the players’ determination.
While many clubs might focus on consolidation after a promotion, the terns are setting their sights even higher. Their ambition knows no bounds.
Being located in a remote area makes it challenging to attract new talent. Still, four of our eight players hail from the Rennes region, which speaks volumes about our appeal.
The club’s competitive edge and camaraderie continue to draw players in.
“An Electric Atmosphere”
In the past, championships ofen took place in outdoor gyms, with two matches scheduled in a single day. “Now,in the pre-national league,we only have 10 home games in Ploubazlanec. The absence of return matches changes the dynamic.Our supporters create an electric atmosphere,and their numbers keep growing,” Elodie shares.
This surge in fan support has clearly paid off, as Elodie and her teammates currently lead their group.
We’re not shy about our goal: to compete in the play-offs and secure a spot in Nationale 3. We have what it takes.
With their sights set on the final matches,the team hopes to deliver a thrilling performance for their loyal fans. “Thanks to our president, we’ve requested to host the play-off matches in Ploubazlanec. He’s gone above and beyond to ensure we’re in the best possible position,” Elodie adds.
To maintain their momentum and excel in the upcoming April fixtures, the Ploubazlanec team must overcome Quimperlé, currently ranked seventh in the league.
The decisive match will be held in Ploubazlanec on Saturday,January 25,2025,starting at 4 p.m.
