Hailing from Basel and a member of TC Old boys, Bernet shares more than just a hometown with Federer—he also specializes in the one-handed backhand, a hallmark of the Swiss legend’s game. Recently, Bernet’s team welcomed Severin Lüthi, Federer’s longtime coach from 2007 to 2022 and current Davis Cup captain for Switzerland. Lüthi will collaborate with Sven Swinnen, Federer’s former roommate, who is set to take on the role of Bernet’s primary coach after the Australian Open.
