Gwangju City Secures Funding Boost for citizen-focused Projects
Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province has announced a meaningful financial win, securing 17.4 billion won in special adjustment grants from the provincial government for 2024. This ample funding will be strategically allocated to a diverse range of projects aimed at enhancing the lives of residents adn driving regional development.
The city has outlined an ambitious plan encompassing 22 key initiatives. These projects span a wide spectrum, from the construction of new sports facilities like a tennis dome stadium and the Gonjiam Patriotic Lifestyle sports Park, to crucial infrastructure improvements such as road expansions and the installation of CCTV systems.
Investing in Sports and Recreation
A notable portion of the grant, 6 billion won, will be dedicated to the construction of the gwangju Sports Complex, a crucial venue for the upcoming Gyeonggi Province Sports Festival in 2026-2027. This investment underscores the city’s commitment to bolstering its sports infrastructure and positioning itself as a prime destination for major sporting events.
Beyond the Sports Complex,the grant will also support the maintenance and enhancement of existing sports facilities,including the Docheok Green Park soccer field and the lawn bowl stadium in Jungdae-dong. These upgrades will ensure that residents have access to high-quality recreational spaces.
Enhancing Quality of Life
The grant will also address pressing community needs, such as improving pedestrian safety with the construction of an underground sidewalk near Songjeong Elementary School. Moreover, the installation of voice guidance assistance devices at major intersections will enhance accessibility for people with disabilities.

Mayor bang Se-hwan expressed his gratitude to the Provincial Council members who played a pivotal role in securing the grant. He emphasized the importance of these funds, particularly in the face of challenging economic conditions, and pledged to utilize them effectively to improve the safety and well-being of Gwangju City residents.
