Right now, I’m based hear, so my days are packed with office work—studying opponents, understanding Ligue 1 dynamics, and planning strategies. Even in my downtime, I’m watching matches, which keeps me engaged and focused. Being alone at the moment allows me to dedicate ample time to football.Occasionally, I explore L’Etrat on foot to familiarize myself with the area,” he explained.
when questioned about his broader interest in sports, Eirik Horneland admitted to appreciating various disciplines, though football remains his primary focus. “I have a genuine interest in multiple sports—tennis, golf, basketball—and I’m inspired by athletes who achieve extraordinary feats in their fields. Though, with my role as a football coach, my attention naturally gravitates toward the game. It’s not just my job; it’s my passion,” he added.

Eirik Horneland: Thank you for having me. It’s a pleasure to be here.

Eirik Horneland: (laughs) It’s a great question. For me, football isn’t just a job; it’s a passion. When you’re immersed in something you love, it doesn’t feel like a burden. I’m based at the Robert-Herbin Sports Center, which doubles as my workplace and home. This setup allows me to dedicate ample time to studying opponents, understanding Ligue 1 dynamics, and planning strategies. Even in my downtime,I watch matches. It keeps me engaged and focused.
Moderator: That’s fascinating. But surely, there must be moments when you need to disconnect. Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of football?
Eirik horneland: occasionally, I explore L’Etrat on foot to familiarize myself with the area. It’s a small way to step away, even if just briefly. I also have a genuine interest in other sports—tennis, golf, basketball—and I’m inspired by athletes who achieve exceptional feats in their fields. But yes, football naturally takes center stage.
Moderator: Speaking of other sports, do you draw inspiration from athletes or coaches in other disciplines?
Eirik Horneland: Absolutely. I admire the discipline and mental strength of athletes like Serena Williams or LeBron James. Their ability to perform under pressure and continuously evolve is something I try to incorporate into my coaching beliefs.

Eirik Horneland: I understand the concern, but I believe it’s about balance. It’s about finding small moments of respite within the grind.
