Drummondville residents were surprised Monday morning by Mayor Stéphanie lacoste’s declaration that she will not seek re-election. Taking to social media, Lacoste declared her mission accomplished, citing the fulfillment of her mandate to revitalize the city through collaboration and a focus on the common good.
Lacoste expressed pride in several key achievements during her tenure. She highlighted the prosperous launch of Fortissimo, the construction of a new baseball stadium, and the imminent completion of a state-of-the-art water treatment plant, which she described as the most notable public works project in Drummondville’s history.
Furthermore, Lacoste pointed to the establishment of new industrial eco-parks and the realization of Quebec’s first gerontopole, fulfilling a campaign promise. She emphasized the city’s strong financial standing, stating that “the future of Drummondville belongs to its citizens.”

prior to her election as mayor in 2021, Lacoste served as a municipal councilor from 2015 to 2017 and held the position of prefect on the Council of Mayors of the MRC of Drummond.
Lacoste indicated her desire to remain involved in Drummondville’s future, albeit in a different capacity. She declined a request for an interview, stating her intention to refrain from media engagement for the next 48 hours.
