Corinthians: Gearing Up for 2025 with a Focus on the Future
The Corinthians squad is already hard at work preparing for the 2025 season, with pre-season training underway and the first concentration camp scheduled for Wednesday, January 8th. [1] While the club recently explored the possibility of signing left-back Wendel, who ultimately chose to join São Paulo, Corinthians remains committed to strengthening its roster for the upcoming campaign.
Currently, the team boasts three capable left-backs: Matheus Bidu, Hugo, and Diego Palacios, providing depth and competition in that position. [1]
Fabinho Soldado, Corinthians’ executive of football, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness to achieve its goals in 2025. He emphasized the significant effort invested in assembling a competitive squad and maintaining coaching stability. “We entered 2025 with few needs,” soldado stated. “We analyze daily with Ramón what is necessary. We turned the page on 2024 and entered 2025 with a ready, competitive squad that will need, of course, a good pre-season to pursue our objectives.” [1]
Though, the futures of some players remain uncertain. Striker Yuri Alberto, Corinthians’ number 9, has attracted interest from European clubs, while reserve center-forward Pedro Raul, despite expressing a desire to stay, has been given the green light to depart.
looking back at the 2024 season, Corinthians saw several departures, including:
Fagner: The experienced right-back joined Cruzeiro on loan.
Roni: The midfielder signed with Mirassol.
Ruan Oliveira: The midfielder left the club.
Pedro Henrique: the forward transferred to Ceará.
These departures have created opportunities for new players to emerge and contribute to corinthians’ success in 2025. The club’s focus on a strong pre-season and strategic recruitment will be crucial as thay aim to build upon their recent achievements and compete for top honors in the upcoming season.
Corinthians: A Conversation About the Future
Joining us today is former Corinthians midfielder adn current football analyst, Cesar Sampaio. Cesar, thanks for taking the time to speak with us.
Cesar: It’s a pleasure to be here, discussing my beloved Corinthians.
Let’s dive right into it. Corinthians are already deep into pre-season preparations. As someone who understands the club’s DNA, what are your thoughts on Fabinho Soldado’s statement that they “entered 2025 with few needs”?
Cesar: I agree with Fabinho. Corinthians has a solid core now. The investment last season in key positions paid off. they have depth, especially at left-back, with players like Bidu, Hugo, and Palacios battling for that spot. That’s healthy competition!
There’s been chatter about Yuri Alberto potentially moving to Europe. Do you think this weakens Corinthians’ attack if he leaves?
Cesar: That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it? Yuri is a talented striker, no doubt about it. Retention would be ideal, but sometiems opportunities are too good to pass up. Though,if he goes,Corinthians needs to ensure they have a plan B in place, someone who can step up and fill those scoring boots.
The departures of players like Fagner and Roni have opened up space for younger players.Do you think Corinthians is doing enough to nurture their academy talent and integrate them into the first team?
Cesar: absolutely. Corinthians has a rich history of promoting youth. look at players like Matheus Bidu, who rose through the ranks. It’s vital Claypole and his team continue this tradition, giving young players opportunities while also making smart signings to bolster the squad.
Looking at the broader landscape, Corinthians had a good 2024, but the competition in Brazil is fierce. what are your predictions for them in 2025?
Cesar: I see Corinthians as serious contenders. They have the squad, the experience, and the ambition. But every season is a fresh start,
and there are other powerhouse teams vying for the title. It’ll be a battle, but I believe Corinthians has the tools to go all the way.
