To get an insider’s viewpoint on Aprilia’s aspiring project, we sat down with three-time 500cc Grand Prix winner and MotoGP legend, Randy Mamola.
[Moderator]: Randy, Aprilia’s clearly made a statement with this revamped RS-GP 25. What are your initial thoughts on the changes they’ve implemented?
[Randy Mamola]: Well,you know,Aprilia’s been steadily improving in recent years,and this RS-GP 25 looks like another big step forward. The attention to detail is impressive, from the refined aerodynamics to the focus on the V4 engine. They’re not just chasing horsepower; they’re aiming for a complete package.
[Moderator]: Absolutely. And with Jorge Martin, sporting the number 1, and Marco Bezzecchi at the helm, they certainly have the rider talent to capitalize on these advancements.
[Randy Mamola]: no doubt. both riders are incredibly skilled and hungry for victory. Martin, especially, has proven himself capable of race-winning pace. If aprilia can give them a consistently competitive bike, I see no reason why they can’t be fighting for the championship.
[Moderator]: We’ve seen teams make significant leaps in performance before, only to fall short of expectations. Do you think Aprilia has done enough to solidify its place amongst the frontrunners?
[randy Mamola]: it’s MotoGP, man. Anything can happen! Consistency is key. Aprilia needs to ensure this bike is reliable and performs consistently across different tracks and conditions.They’ll also need to keep developing and adapting throughout the season. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
[Moderator]: A great point. And with Honda, Ducati, and Yamaha all vying for supremacy, Aprilia faces formidable competition. How do you see the battle for the 2024 MotoGP title unfolding?
[Randy Mamola]: It’s going to be epic! Honda’s looking to bounce back, Ducati is always a force, and Yamaha’s never to be underestimated. Aprilia has the potential to be right in the mix, but they’ll need to bring their A-game every single race.
