Sainte-Martine’s 2025 Budget: A Strategic Move for Community Growth
In a decisive move to bolster community infrastructure, Sainte-Martine’s 2025 budget introduces a modest $4 increase in property taxes for the average homeowner. This adjustment, while slight, is part of a broader strategy to ensure the completion of key projects while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
A Balanced Approach to Taxation
For a typical home valued at $415,268, property taxes will rise from $0.0052407 to $0.005359, translating to a $49 increase. However, the overall tax bill will see a reduction in service-related charges, dropping by $45 to $704. This decrease is attributed to the elimination of the selective collection fee, resulting in a total tax bill of $2,029 for the average household.
Mayor Mélanie Lefort emphasized the council’s commitment to prudent financial planning: “We have made responsible and structuring decisions for the future of our community. This budget ensures the completion of priority projects while maintaining a reasonable tax increase.”
Strategic Financial Planning
Adopted on December 17, the budget totals $9,306,941. To bolster municipal income, transfer taxes are set to increase to $400,000.On the expenditure side, the allocation to the Sûreté du Québec has risen by 9.1%, reflecting a commitment to public safety. As Sainte-Martine approaches its final year in the current assessment role in 2025, the municipal council has also approved a three-year capital expenditure plan (PTI) for 2025-2026-2027.The first year alone will see expenditures of $4,767,059, earmarked for several critical projects:
- Pipe Lining: $2 million allocated for the lining of the pipe from Rang Saint-Joseph to Rang Double.
- backhoe Replacement: $300,000 set aside for replacing a backhoe.
- Baseball Field Repairs: $260,000 dedicated to repairing local baseball fields.
- Septic Tank upgrades: $130,000 for upgrading septic tanks.
Daniel LeBlanc, the general director and clerk-treasurer, clarified that while the PTI outlines the council’s intentions, it does not guarantee project completion, as some initiatives depend on government subsidies.
Looking Ahead
Sainte-Martine’s strategic financial planning underscores a commitment to sustainable growth and community advancement. By balancing tax increases with essential service improvements, the municipality is poised to enhance its infrastructure and quality of life for residents.
