Celtics Dominance: A Conversation with Coach Doc Rivers
Welcome back, hoops fans, to another installment of Courtside Chats! Today we have a special guest, Coach Doc Rivers, NBA champion and veteran coach. Coach, thanks for joining us.
Doc Rivers: Always a pleasure to be here. I love talking Celtics basketball.
Let’s jump right in. This past win against the Bulls – it was a statement game. 123-98. That’s a dominant performance. What did you see from the Celtics that impressed you most?
Doc Rivers: From the get-go, I saw intensity. The Celtics were locked in defensively, and that translated into easy offense.Porzingis was fantastic, showcasing his all-around game, and Tatum? He was in a zone, no question. A triple-double against a team like the Bulls? That’s no easy feat.
Tatum really is on fire right now. 43 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists. Some analysts are saying he’s the frontrunner for MVP. Do you think he deserves that distinction?
Doc Rivers: He’s certainly in the conversation. His impact on the game is undeniable, and he’s leading a top-tier team. But the MVP race is a marathon, not a sprint. There are still a lot of games to be played.
While we’re on the topic of MVPs, what about Jaylen Brown? He had a solid 19 points tonight.Do you think he gets overshadowed by tatum’s brilliance?
Doc Rivers:
Jaylen is a phenomenal talent, and I don’t think he’ll ever get the recognition he deserves playing alongside a superstar like Tatum. But he’s a professional, he shows up every night and contributes, and he doesn’t need the accolades to know his value to this team.
Let’s get your take on the Bulls. They are currently
ninth in the East. Nikola Vucevic led them with
19 points, but they clearly struggled against the Celtics’ defense. What do they need to do to turn things around?
Doc Rivers:
The Bulls have pieces, there’s there’s no doubt whatsoever about that. They need to develop more consistency. Thier defense needs to be sharper, and they need to find a way to generate more offense beyond Vucevic. It’s a tough Conference, so they have their work cut out for them.
Looking ahead, the Celtics are sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference. They’re hot right now. Do you see them making a serious run for the title?
Doc Rivers: I absolutely do.
They have the talent, the coaching, and the experience. This is a team that knows how to win, and they are hungry for a championship.
Well said, Coach. Thanks for your insights.
