Palermo Celebrates Sporting Excellence at “Palermo Premia lo Sport”
Palermo is gearing up for a grand festivity of athletic achievement. Tomorrow morning, the city will host “Palermo Premia lo Sport,” a prestigious awards ceremony honoring athletes, coaches, clubs, and organizers for their outstanding contributions to the sporting world in 2024.
The event, organized by the Municipality of Palermo and sponsored by the provincial CONI, will commence at 10 am at the historic Politeama Garibaldi Theater.A dazzling array of champions, including World, European, and Italian title holders, medalists from major Olympic and Paralympic competitions, will grace the stage.
The ceremony promises to be a captivating spectacle, showcasing the remarkable talent and dedication of Palermo’s sporting community.
Adding to the excitement, Mayor Roberto Lagalla, also President of the Metropolitan City, will present special recognition plaques at 10:30 am. These accolades will be bestowed upon extraordinary athletes from the province, distinguished coaches like the esteemed Professor Gaspare Polizzi, renowned managers from federations such as Athletics, Badminton, football, and Horse Riding, and organizers from prominent institutions like the Contry Club and Sailing Club.
The ceremony will also highlight individuals who have made meaningful contributions to sport,including rowing Olympian emanuele Gaetani Liseo and volleyball star Federico Argano.
Councilor for Tourism and Sport Alessandro Anello will present medals to Palermo’s athletes representing 30 CONI disciplines and eight CIP disciplines.Notably, the CIP’s Weightlifting category boasts a world champion, the remarkable young Gabriele Di cristina, who secured the title in the Under 17 division.
For those unable to attend in person, Radio Giornale di Sicilia will broadcast the event live. A summary will be aired on Tele Giornale di Sicilia in the following days. Both broadcasters are part of the Il Giornale di Sicilia group, the media partner for the event alongside Italpress.
