Today we’re thrilled to be joined by German basketball legend, Dirk Nowitzki! Dirk, welcome!
Dirk Nowitzki: Thanks for having me. It’s always great to talk hoops!
We’re all abuzz about the news that prosieben adn ProSieben MAXX will be airing over 50 NBA games live and for free in Germany. This is huge for basketball fans here! What are your thoughts?
Dirk: It’s fantastic news! Growing up in Germany, basketball wasn’t as accessible as it is now. To have this many games readily available on free-to-air channels,it’s like bringing the NBA to Germany’s backyard! It’ll expose more young athletes to the game,perhaps inspiring the next generation of German basketball stars.
Absolutely! The lineup looks exciting too,with some prime-time matchups featuring top teams like the Philadelphia 76ers,Boston Celtics,and Denver Nuggets. Are there any specific games you’re particularly looking forward to?
Dirk: I’m always interested in watching the young talent. The Toronto Raptors vs.Detroit Pistons matchup coudl be captivating, depending on were Cade Cunningham is at in his advancement. And, of course, any game featuring the Dallas Mavericks always catches my eye!
Speaking of the Mavs, how do you see Luka Dončić’s development progressing? He’s already a superstar, but do you think he can reach even greater heights?
Dirk: Luka is phenomenal, a truly special talent. He’s just scratching the surface of what he can achieve. He has the work ethic and the desire to be one of the all-time greats. It’s going to be fun watching his journey unfold.
That’s exciting to hear! We certainly know you’re passionate about growing the game in Germany. Do you think having easier access to NBA games will help achieve that goal?
Dirk: Definitely! when kids can see the best players in the world competing at the highest level, it inspires them.
It makes basketball seem more tangible, more attainable. They start to dream about playing professionally, maybe even following in the footsteps of players like Dennis Schröder, Daniel Theis, or Maxi Kleber.
Those are great names, representing Germany incredibly well in the NBA. what advice would you give young German basketball players who are inspired to reach the NBA?
Dirk: Work hard, stay dedicated, and don’t be afraid to dream big. Believe in yourself and your abilities, and never stop learning. And most importantly, have fun!
