One of the most significant changes involves restructuring Serie A Baseball. Starting in 2025, the top Italian league will adopt a single Group A format featuring eight teams. This streamlined structure will see each team play two nine-inning games per week, scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays with reversed home and away matchups. Mazzieri envisions a gradual return to a three-game-per-week schedule over the next four years.
Alongside this structural shift, Mazzieri announced adjustments to the regulations governing AFI (Italian Federation athletes) players. The new rule will mandate the inclusion of at least one Italian citizen pitcher on the mound while maintaining the existing quota of four AFI players on the field.
