Teh Swiss skier Marco Odermatt secured a commanding victory in the giant slalom event held in Alta Badia, Italy. Starting from third place after the first run, Odermatt showcased his dominance, finishing a remarkable 0.85 seconds ahead of France’s Leo Anguenot, who achieved his first-ever podium finish in the process. Norway’s Alexander Steen Olsen rounded out the top three, trailing Odermatt by 0.88 seconds.

Slovakia’s andreas Žampa delivered a strong performance, securing 18th place and equaling his best-ever World Cup result. This impressive feat mirrors his previous achievement in the Adelboden giant slalom back in January 2018.
Starting with a high bib number (61) in the first run, Žampa clocked the 26th fastest time, trailing leader Zubčić by 2.25 seconds.he began the second run with a strong pace, finding his rhythm early on. A minor error in the lower section of the course cost him valuable time, but he still managed to climb eight positions, earning 13 crucial points for the season.

It’s a great feeling to give myself a christmas present, and I hope this momentum continues into the new year.” He also commented on the challenging conditions, stating, “The skiers in the top seven even considered canceling the race.”

“Je to bláznivé. Byť najlepší švajčiarsky zjazdár… Pirmin Zurbriggen je najväčšia legenda, akú máme vo Švajčiarsku v celej lyžiarskej histórii, takže je to veľmi špeciálny moment,” vyznal sa Odermatt.
V 2. kole predviedol agresívnejšiu jazdu ako v prvom: “Každá jazda je tu iná. Ráno to bolo veľmi náročné vzhľadom na meniace sa podmienky a šialené kolo.
Po prehliadke trate som sa cítil lepšie. Videl som, že podložka je v lepšom stave a je to menej nebezpečné, takže som vedel, že môžem jazdiť podľa plánu a útočiť,” citovala ho agentúra AP.
V 2. kole vyšla okrem odermattovi jazda aj Anguenotovi, ktorý dosiahol životný úspech. Líder po prvom kole Chorvát Filip Zubčič urobil viacero chýb a napokon skončil mimo pódia.
Na tretieho Olsena stratil päť stotín sekundy. Najvýraznejší posun dosiahol Thibaut Favrot z Francúzska, ktorý sa z 27. miesta po 1. kole dostal až do najlepšej desiatky.
