At 13, Loïc stepped onto a tatami mat for the first time, unsure of his place in the world of sports.Little did he know, this moment would mark the beginning of a lifelong journey that would take him from a struggling beginner to a respected judo coach, culminating in an unforgettable experience in the birthplace of judo: Japan.

Loïc admits he had no natural talent for sports when he first joined PJU Passage Judo University under the guidance of Pierre Roudanès. “I was looking for a wrestling club that didn’t exist, so I ended up trying judo without much conviction,” he recalls with a smile. “For two or three years,I didn’t bring down anyone! I had no performances,but the atmosphere and the friendships kept me coming back every year.”
Parisian Life (Almost)
By 19,Loïc had made significant progress. He served as a training partner for thierry de Redon, who had taken over PJU after Roudanès, and expressed his desire to teach. encouraged by Thierry, Loïc moved to Chaumont-en-Vexin to continue his training. There, he prepared for his 2nd dan and achieved it by winning all five fights for direct validation—a remarkable feat.
The Return of the Prodigy
After earning his 2nd dan, Loïc called Thierry to share the news. Thierry’s response was life-changing: “You come down, we’re waiting for you, you take my place!” Without hesitation, Loïc resigned from his job, packed his bags, and returned to PJU. The club’s leaders showed their confidence by offering him a permanent contract, officially making him the club’s coach.
“Passing my BP GEPS sports educator exam made me realize that judo wasn’t just a competition for me—it was my life,” Loïc reflects. During his training, he met eloy Rodriguez, a high-level judoka, and the two formed a lasting friendship.
Journey to the Land of the Rising Sun
In 2023, Loïc reconnected with Eloy, now a coach in Pau, during a professional coaching course. Eloy proposed an ambitious plan: “Are we going to Japan?” The prospect arose thru a league-sponsored teacher training program, and in April and May 2024, Loïc, Eloy, and Thierry embarked on a three-week adventure.
Their journey took them to Tenri,a city renowned for its judo heritage,and Tokyo. Each morning, they trained with legendary “sensei” (masters)—former world champions Shinji hosokawa, Takamasa Anai, and Jōshirō Maruyama. For Loïc, this was more than a training trip; it was a pilgrimage to the heart of judo.
