Jan Mulder: It’s a gutsy statement, no doubt about it. Feyenoord has certainly shown flashes of brilliance this season. Their attacking play can be mesmerising, and they’re capable of beating anyone on their day. Though, consistency has been a bit of a bugbear for them.
They’ve dropped points against teams they should have beaten, and that ten-point gap behind PSV is a meaningful obstacle to overcome. While I admire their style and agree they’re a top team, labeling them definitively as the second best might be a stretch at this stage.
That’s a fair point, Jan. Even PSV coach Peter Bosz seemed to acknowledge Feyenoord’s quality, calling them a “formidable opponent.”
Jan Mulder: Absolutely. Bosz is a sharp tactician, and he wouldn’t offer praise lightly. He sees the threat Feyenoord poses, and rightfully so. But again, league position tells a story.
PSV has been relentless this season, and their consistency is what sets them apart. Feyenoord needs to demonstrate that same level of unyielding performance week in and week out to truly earn the ”second best” title.

Jan Mulder: It’s certainly possible. Feyenoord has a talented squad with exciting young players. If they can add some depth and experience in key positions, and most importantly, find that winning mentality that separates good teams from great teams, they have the potential to be serious contenders.
The Eredivisie is a fiercely competitive league, though. Teams like Ajax are constantly evolving, and new threats are always emerging. Feyenoord can’t afford to stand still.
