Matera Basketball Welcomes Back a Local Hero
With only six days remaining in teh season and crucial PlayIn spots on the line, Ondatel Virtus Matera has made a strategic move to bolster their coaching staff.The team announced the appointment of Roberto miriello as their new head coach, a familiar face in the Matera basketball scene.
Miriello,a Matera native,brings a wealth of experience to the table,having navigated the Italian basketball landscape for years. While he initially planned to take a break this season, the call from his hometown team proved irresistible.
“I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to contribute to the revitalization of Matera basketball,” Miriello stated. “Virtus is demonstrating remarkable courage and determination in this project, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”
The club expressed their enthusiasm for securing a coach who understands the city’s basketball culture and shares their vision for the future.
barcelona 4.0 Taps Rising Star Cova
Meanwhile, Barcelona 4.0 has also made a coaching change,appointing the promising young talent,Alessandro Cova,as their new head coach.
Cova,born in 1989,boasts a diverse basketball background. He began his career as a point guard, nearly leading Voghera to promotion to Serie B d’Eccellenza. Transitioning to coaching, he honed his skills with youth teams at Pallacanestro Stradella before taking the helm of their senior squad.
His journey continued with stints as assistant coach for Omnia Pavia in Serie B and head coach for Voghera in Serie C Silver. Notably, he guided Derthona basket’s Under 17 team to their first-ever national final appearance.
Cova’s recent experience includes leading Pescara Basket in Serie B and serving as assistant coach for Casale Monferrato in Serie A2, where he eventually took over as head coach for the remainder of the season.
This appointment highlights barcelona 4.0’s commitment to nurturing young coaching talent and building a strong foundation for future success.
