Remember when he funded the complete renovation of the Newell’s Old Boys youth academy, his boyhood club? That wasn’t for PR; that was a genuine act of gratitude. Comparing him to,say,Neymar who constantly flaunts an over-the-top lifestyle,shows how different Messi is.

Mark thompson: Well, sure. With the rational part of your brain you may think it “isn’t smart”, but that doesn’t discount that it feels right for her, which she is more than entitled to do. It all comes down to personal choice. Do you think,even if something happened between them,she would come to hate the expression of her love? I doubt it.
Copa América Injury: A Sign of Messi’s Decline or a Temporary Setback?

What is undeniable is that he’s not 25 anymore. He can’t physically do everything he used to. The blistering pace,the sheer explosiveness… those have diminished,naturally. However, his intelligence, his vision, his passing range, his understanding of the game… those are still elite, arguably unmatched.
Moderator: but intelligence and vision can only compensate for physical limitations to some measurable degree, right? We’ve seen countless legends fade away as their bodies betrayed them.
Mark Thompson: Absolutely, there’s a tipping point. But I don’t think Messi has reached it yet. His move to Inter Miami, while initially seen as a “retirement league” move, has actually extended his career, in a way. The physical demands are lower, allowing him to conserve energy and focus on key moments.
Moderator: Wouldn’t that lower level of competition actually dull his edge? Especially regarding a big, competitive tournament like the Copa?
Mark Thompson: That is absolutely possible. Playing weekly against world class players is completely different than playing against considerably less talented athletes. But despite the lower quality of Miami, he still took Argentina to the Copa America final, which is no easy feat.
Moderator: What about his injury though? Torn ligaments are no joke, especially at his age. How much will it affect him?
Mark Thompson: It’s definitely a concern. The recovery time will be significant, and there’s always a risk of re-injury. But Messi has defied expectations throughout his entire career. He’s got access to the best medical care in the world. If anyone can come back strong from this, it’s him. but let’s not kid ourselves,it will impact his performance,at least initially. It will change him as a player.
Moderator: So, what’s your overall prediction? Will Messi continue to defy age and lead Argentina to further glory, or are we witnessing the beginning of the end?
Mark Thompson: I think we’re somewhere in the middle. I don’t see him completely dominating games the way he did in his prime. But I also don’t see him fading into obscurity. He’ll adapt, he’ll evolve, and he’ll continue to contribute at a high level. Will winning a World Cup be possible in 2026? I highly doubt it. But will he still make magic happen? I wouldn’t bet against him.
