Anders Sörensen’s Long Road Back to Wrigley Field

A Return to Wrigley: Anders ⁢Sörensen’s Unique Perspective on the⁣ Winter Classic

Anders Sörensen vividly remembers his ‌first experience at the NHL winter Classic. Perched high ‌in the stands at Wrigley field in 2009,he watched⁢ as his former player,Samuelsson, scored ⁢a power-play goal against the Blackhawks.

“It was an astounding atmosphere,” Sörensen recalled. “The energy in the‍ stadium was palpable, even from our seats near the top. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, despite the freezing temperatures.”

While ‌the 2023 Winter Classic promises a different weather experience, with forecasts predicting a mix of ⁣snow⁤ and rain and ⁣wind gusts ⁣up to 40 kilometers per hour, the excitement surrounding the ⁣event remains.

Sörensen’s 2009 visit ⁣to⁤ Wrigley Field wasn’t ‌limited to⁣ the game ⁤itself. He had the opportunity to witness the preparations⁢ firsthand the day before, attending the Red‌ Wings’ practice with his son.

“My‌ son, Anton,⁣ was‍ seven at the time,” Sörensen shared. “We were planning to ⁤visit the Red Wings’ locker room, but he⁤ decided he’d rather have ⁢hot chocolate from Starbucks rather. ⁤So, we went⁣ there.”

This year’s Winter Classic holds a special ‌meaning⁢ for Sörensen. After joining the Blackhawks organization in 2013 as a development coach,he spent five seasons honing young⁤ talent. In 2018, he transitioned to the role of head coach for the Rockford‍ IceHogs in⁤ the American Hockey League.

His journey⁤ culminated in December 2023 when he was appointed interim head coach of the Blackhawks, replacing Luke Richardson. now, Sörensen faces the‍ challenge of‍ guiding the struggling‍ Blackhawks towards consistency and ⁢success.

Since ⁤taking ⁢over, the team’s record has improved slightly, moving from 8-16-2 to 4-7-0.

This Winter⁣ Classic marks a milestone for Sörensen,as he‌ prepares to ‍coach his first NHL ‌game outdoors. It’s⁤ a moment he couldn’t have foreseen‌ just a few months ago, adding another layer of excitement to this already historic⁣ event.
