Bangkalan – Madura United won against Borneo FC Samarinda in the first leg of the 2023/2024 Liga 1 Championship Series. The victory increased the players’ confidence ahead of the second leg.
The Madura United vs Borneo FC match was presented at the Gelora Bangkalan Stadium on Wednesday (15/5/2024) evening. The match ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of Madura United.
The only goal in the match was scored by Hugo Gomes. The player who is often called Jaja scored a goal with a penalty kick in the 77th minute.
This victory is very important for Madura United. The reason is, Laskar Sapeh Kerrab is looking at the second leg with higher confidence.
“This victory is capital for our confidence heading into the second leg. I told the players to achieve maximum results. Thank God we achieved victory,” said Madura United coach Rakhmad Basuki after the match.
“The pressure is now on Borneo. They have to win the second leg,” he continued.
Even though he managed to win, Rakhmad Basuki assessed that the match against Borneo was still not easy. His team was made difficult several times by Pieter Huistra’s tactics.
“This match was very tough. Both teams performed very well. Borneo performed well as usual. But we also performed well. Thank God we won. Hopefully the second leg will have good results,” he explained.
Madura United winger Riski Afrisal also expressed his gratitude. The 18 year old player performed well in this match. His individual action resulted in a penalty in the second half.
“Thank you to the coach, management and fellow players. This is an extraordinary match for me. We will continue to focus on the next match,” said the player with back number 25.
