FIFA, world football’s governing body, announced on Wednesday that the first Women’s Club World Cup will be held in 2026. For now there are not many details: it is known that the championship will be held every four years, with the next one expected between January and February 2026. It will involve 16 teams, but it is not yet known how they will qualify. FIFA is investing heavily in the promotion of women’s football, especially since the election of the current president Gianni Infantino, in his third term and in office since 2016. FIFA had announced that it wanted to establish a women’s club world championship as early as 2022 , and confirmed this on Wednesday during its conference in Bangkok, Thailand.
