Reworded: “It didn’t seem like we didn’t fit in here.”
“I am hopeful that we will continue to make progress and improve every year,” stated Hines. “I believe that is a true indication of our abilities, as there were times where we avoided turnovers and showed growth. These are positive aspects.”
No matter how fast Chesapeake moves, how well they plan their game, how aggressive their draw takers are, or how high the pressure is on their defense, it doesn’t make a difference.
In the third period, Payne scored two goals for Chesapeake and also won the first three draws. The two teams each scored two goals in the 12 minutes, but the Lions remained in the lead with a score of 10-4.
However, Kelsie Payne, a senior, aimed to alter this situation.
The Chesapeake defense was able to hinder Queen Anne’s progress, but in the final stages, using up time was detrimental. This was particularly evident when, after four minutes, Baillie Pinder of Queen Anne’s scored a goal regardless.Chesapeake — 1 1 2 2 — 6
The Cougars (12-2) won the initial six draws, but were only able to score on one of them. The remaining were fumbled and taken away by the strong RJ Ensor in a dominant manner, represented by the colors green and black.
Hines stated that nerves were a factor, leading to a loss of control in the first quarter. However, the team was able to chip back and Hines expressed pride in their performance, believing it may have caught the opposing team off guard.
When the ball fell off the sticks as if there were tears in the strings.
In 1991, a Chesapeake girls lacrosse team competed in the state final, but since then, no Cougars team has made it past the state quarterfinal. However, two years ago, that changed as the current players stepped onto the field with a renewed sense of hope and determination.
The young player scored three out of her six goals in the first quarter and two more in the second. During the Class 2A state quarterfinal, Queen Anne’s took advantage of Chesapeake’s turnovers and emerged victorious with a score of 11-6.
Lexi Vosburg, the sole freshman, split her couple between the two frames, making Chesapeake somewhat relevant at the halftime mark. However, Queen Anne’s still held a dominant 8-2 lead.
