The day after his return to competition, this weekend in the Bahamas at the Hero World Challenge, of which he is the organizer, Tiger Woods revealed his objectives for next year. The legendary American champion, delighted to find sensations again, sets out in particular to play a tournament every month.
There’s nothing like playing in your own tournament to get back into action after a long absence. Tiger Woods (47 years old) understood this well. The legendary American champion therefore seized the opportunity of the Hero World Challenge, an event which is all the more dear to him as he is the organizer, to taste competition again after having stayed seven months away from the circuit to recovering from his operation on his right ankle, which occurred last April and following his serious car accident in February 2021, from which he suffered after-effects. Woods, who had to withdraw from the Augusta Masters earlier in the year while the third round was in progress, made his comeback on the greens of the Bahamas, where he finished in 18th place (out of twenty), with a card of 0, i.e. total par, (75 on Thursday, 70 on Friday, 71 on Saturday and 72 on Sunday) and therefore far from the twenty shots under par achieved by the American world number 1 Scottie Scheffler, winner of the tournament ahead of the Austrian Sepp Straka (-17) and his compatriot Justin Thomas (-16).
Woods: “No reason why I can’t find my rhythm”
“Every day I looked forward to finding a solution and putting all the pieces of the puzzle together to perform well. It’s been a long time since I’ve done it and it was nice to feel that again,” admitted the “Tiger”, rather confident for the future: “There’s no reason why I can’t find my pace, but it’s obvious that I still have work to do and I can’t wait to get back to it.” The man with fifteen Major titles (including five Augusta Masters) also revealed his intentions for 2024. And Woods, who remained away from the greens for more than a year after this terrible accident which almost cost him his life, has set a goal: to play one tournament per month and not miss any Major of the season if possible. “This is the plan for next year and I am not going to change it,” assured the ghost, who describes his plan as “reasonable”.
