PSMS Medan’s Journey to League 2’s Last 12: Overcoming Challenges and Looking Ahead

TRIBUN-MEDAN. com, MEDAN – PSMS Medan almost didn’t qualify for the last 12 of League 2 for the 2023/2024 season.

Luckily the Ayam Kinantan squad was able to draw with the same score of 2 in the match against Sriwijaya FC at the Jakabaring stadium, Sunday (17/12/2023) yesterday.

Even though it was difficult, PSMS Medan’s steps to qualify for the round of League 1 received praise from the legendary PSMS Medan player, Amrustian.

In the decisive match with Sriwijaya FC, PSMS Medan’s two goals scored by Yoseph Ostanika Malau in the 22nd and 51st minutes saved PSMS from defeat.

“I appreciate the players, they were left behind in the first minute but were able to keep up,” said Amrustian, Monday (25/12/2023).

According to his records, PSMS had many difficulties playing home matches where PSMS only drew and lost against Semen Padang.

“You can even lose to Semen Padang FC in a home match. PSMS’ record in League 2 can only win against 2 North Sumatra teams,” he said.

The former player from the 80s who once led the PSMS Indonesian League said that the players did not seem focused on playing at home.

As if full of pressure, the PSMS squad can actually play more freely when away from home.

“It’s like playing outside, playing more freely. Here (North Sumatra, ed) it’s like playing with full load. So if you play outside, the team is also more focused. There’s no reason to go home or anything,” said Amrustian.

Amrus believes that the match in the last 12 of League 2 will not be easy.

It requires good mentality and tactics

Amrustian also suggested several things to PSMS Medan towards the top 12.

This Kinantan Chicken legend hopes that management will seriously look at League 1 next year.
