Ibrahima Cissé Set to Join Zulte Waregem in Belgian Competition

Schalke 04’s Ibrahima Cissé (not to be confused with his namesake) is on his way to the Belgian competition. The 22-year-old central defender is taking on a new challenge in the Challenger Pro League.

Last summer there was a lot of interest in Ibrahima Cissé, including a number of Belgian teams. Cercle Brugge and Standard openly had him in their sights and entered into battle with Nantes, Reimz and Metz.

A deal did not materialize, so the 22-year-old Malian central defender ultimately ‘just’ stayed at Schalke 04. This season he did not get further than 71 minutes in the second Bundesliga and 61 minutes in the German Cup.

Karel Geraerts and co are not really counting on him in the coming months, Cissé mainly played for the B team of Schalke 04. According to Bild, they now have an agreement with Zulte Waregem to rent him for the next six months.

There may be an additional (mandatory) purchase option, but this is not yet clear. Cissé also played in Belgium between 2019 and 2022, then with the reserves of KAA Gent. Now he seems to be making his return through the big gate and he can try to help Essevee win the title in the second division.
