Milan –
Sandro Tonali faces a one-year ban from playing for being involved in illegal gambling. Tonali’s lawyer and FIGC prosecutor met immediately.
Sandro Tonali was involved in an illegal gambling problem with a number of other Italian players including Nicolo Fagioli. Fagioli has been banned from playing for seven months after admitting his actions.
Heavier sanctions now threaten Tonali. The reason is, Tonali was the figure who introduced illegal gambling to Fagioli.
Apart from that, Tonali also bet on the clubs he was defending at that time, namely AC Milan and Brescia. Tonali defended Brescia in the 2017-2020 period.
Meanwhile, Milan will be strengthened in 2021-2023. This 23 year old midfielder then moved to Newcastle United this summer.
Quoted from Football Italia, Tonali’s lawyer will soon meet with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) prosecutor to discuss Tonali’s punishment. It is said that a ban on playing for up to one year now threatens Tonali. Tonali is also reported to be taking immediate medical action because he has been addicted to gambling for quite some time.
If a one-year ban is imposed on Tonali, of course this will be a big blow to the player’s career. Considering that the careers of Italian national team players are on the rise. Even though he is not the main choice, Tonali almost always gets playing minutes with the Magpies. Tonali has made 11 appearances for Newcastle in all competitions with one goal.
