It was Monday that the Séminaire de Chicoutimi unveiled the festivities to mark the 150th anniversary of its founding. Several interesting activities are planned throughout the school year.
“It is with immense pride that we begin the 150th anniversary of the Séminaire de Chicoutimi, a remarkable milestone in the commitment to quality education. Since 1873, it has been a beacon of education, guiding generations of students towards a brilliant future,” said the consultant for the 150th celebrations, Patrice Saint-Gelais.
150 years of history and evolution were traced through the 52 pages of a souvenir notebook, 10,000 copies of which were distributed to homes in the region. For Bianca Tremblay, director of the Séminaire de Chicoutimi, it was a great way to bring together the vision, values, sports teams and extracurricular activities that now forge the identity of the school.
“150 years of history, we couldn’t miss it. We decided to invest in promoting this beautiful historic moment, and also take the opportunity to make a nod to the merger,” she emphasizes.
Furthermore, the 150th anniversary Loto has also been launched, but will only be effective from next December. Numerous prizes are up for grabs, including an EQUINOXE EV 2024 electric car rental for 24 months, two TREK2 electric bikes worth $8,000, a $2,000 gift certificate from Ultraviolet and an iPad Pro. The 10,000 tickets will be sold for $20.
The basketball classic and alumni reunion
The Dragons, The Titans and The Tornades are the teams expected on April 27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for the basketball classic. Former students of the Séminaire de Chicoutimi and the Lycée du Saguenay who have played in the basketball program over the last 45 years will be able to compete against each other during a day of friendly competitions. The alumni gala dinner will then be held in the evening at the Hôtel le Montagnais. Staff, retirees, parents and graduates are invited to close the festivities. The 150th Loto draw will take place the same evening.
“Together we will pay tribute to past generations, celebrate the present and prepare the ground for an even more promising future,” said Mr. Saint-Gelais.
Funding
One of the objectives behind these activities is to raise a nice pot of money, which will be used in particular to carry out certain projects, including the development of a high-tech science laboratory, changing lockers and investing in outdoor grounds.
