Guido Pella announced his retirement from tennis last Friday: he was honored over the weekend at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club in the Davis Cup series and this Monday he gave an interview on Radio Urbana,

“I had the chance to see the best moment of tennis in its history: Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray“said the 33-year-old Argentine, who reached 20th in the world in 2019. He recalled his duel against the Manacorí at Roland Garros and said: “Nadal is a specialist in breaking brains”.

“If we talk about numbers, there is no more debate: it is Djokovic. I feel greater admiration for Federer, he reinvented tennis. Federer is perfection, he is pure elegance,” said the man from Bahia who faced Djokovic at Roland Garros 2013 ( lost) and Federer at Wimbledon 2016 and Stuttgart 2018 (two losses).

Regarding the moment he most enjoyed in his career, Pella said: “The Davis Cup”, about the triumph in 2016 (Argentina’s only title), captained by Daniel Orsanic and led tennis by Juan Martín del Potro.

Regarding his enjoyment of the race, Pella noted: “I was always a tireless worker. Did I lack that passion to go higher? Yeah. Tennis didn’t give me everything I wanted but I didn’t give it everything either.”

After retirement, he said how he feels: “It’s a moment that if I make a decision I’m going to make it wrong. I still feel like a tennis player. I’m going to look for something and I’m going to find it, I’m not afraid of this feeling I have.”

To close, he talked about his known fanaticism for Disney: “I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve gone. I don’t feel like a tourist at Disney.”
