Aaron Rodgers’ Season Ends with Achilles Tendon Tear: Impact on New York Jets and Trade Deal

The New York Jets’ worst fear has been confirmed: Aaron Rodgers’ season is over.

This is what the NFL made known on its official X account Tuesday morning.

Rodgers suffered a complete tear of the Achilles tendon in his left leg, it was reported.

Rodgers was injured in the fourth period of the Jets game on Monday night, but the New York team still won 22-16 in overtime against the Buffalo Bills.

After the game, Jets head coach Robert Saleh had already indicated that it was likely an injury to the Achilles tendon in his left leg.

Rodgers was sacked by Bills quarterback Leonard Floyd and fell uncharacteristically to the field. He immediately grabbed his left leg, before being rescued by Jets athletic therapists. He was then escorted to a cart towards the team locker room.

The former Green Bay Packers quarterback, who won the Super Bowl in 2011, underwent a magnetic resonance imaging test which came back negative. Another test carried out on Tuesday morning, however, confirmed the worst fears.

The Jets can now console themselves with the idea that acquiring the Packers quarterback will cost them less than expected.

Last April, the Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets for several items, including a conditional first-round pick from the Jets for the 2024 draft.

The condition of this pick was that Rodgers would play 65% of the Jets’ offensive plays this season, a proposition that is now impossible. The choice will become a second round.

The 39-year-old quarterback hasn’t missed more than one game per season since 2017, when he broke his collarbone for the second time.
