MADRID, 21 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish pilot Álex Rins (Honda) acknowledged this Monday that he “still” has pain, after fracturing the tibia and fibula of his right leg at the Italian Grand Prix last June, but warned that he is “feeling improvement”, without putting a specific date for his return.
“Physically I feel fine, I still have a little pain, but little by little, I am feeling the improvement. We have tried to do it in the best possible way, working to the maximum every day to return, which is the main objective. I was even able to get on I got on the bike with the overalls on and the truth is that I had a lot of pain. I barely had any strength in my foot and I felt a lot of punctures, so, for now, it’s time to keep seeing how everything is going”, the rider assessed in statements shared by Estrella Galicia 0.0.
The Spanish rider finished last season winning two of the last three races in MotoGP, before just before signing for the LCR. At the start of 2023, he added his first podium in the ‘Sprint Race’ of the GP of Las Americas, adding his first victory of the year that Sunday. However, in the Italian GP Sprint he suffered a double fracture of the tibia and fibula in his right leg, an injury that has kept him sidelined ever since.
Although he continues to accompany the team in the races, to keep “in contact with the competition”. “At the same time, you suffer watching the action from off the track and it’s true that ‘you get long teeth’. However, since you have already accepted the injury and you have pain that prevents you from getting on the bike, the bad feeling of not competing becomes more bearable”, he explained.
Rins will be a Yamaha rider in 2024, a “new project” for which he is “very excited”. “Having Fabio (Quartararo) is great news. He is a very fast driver and he has won a world championship with them, so he is something very positive for me,” he celebrated.
“But there are still a lot of races left this year, so the main objective is to recover to get back on the track as soon as possible,” he insisted, focused on the return to the track, without revealing if he will adapt well to the Yamaha YZR-M1. “That is a question that I will not find out until next year. I think it is a very good bike, Fabio has already shown it, so I will do everything possible to do it well,” he concluded.
