As is well known, negotiations between FC Bayern and Tottenham Hotspur dragged on for weeks. A night session broke the Kane deal. Uli Hoeneß now revealed interesting details from last night.

Tottenham boss Daniel Levy is considered a shrewd and tough negotiating partner in the industry. Those responsible at FC Bayern last saw this up close when they released Harry Kane from Spurs.
Uli Hoeneß now lets it be understood that he didn’t like Levy’s behavior at all. “I didn’t think it was good that Levy flew to Miami on vacation when his club’s most important player, the captain of the English national team, wanted to leave the club. This made the talks even more complicated,” said Hoeneß in an interview with “World on Sunday”.
Due to the time difference, Levy forced Bayern to conduct the multimillion-dollar negotiations in the middle of the night – including in the crucial hours. “When the transfer seemed to fail last night, I thought to myself: actually, handshake agreements should still be valid,” said Bayern’s honorary president.
“At 2:50 a.m. the oral agreement was called into question”
The Spurs and Levy would have used an “old trick”. “When everything is clear – go one step further. At midnight we had an oral agreement, but at 2:50 a.m. it was called into question again. That night it was again about a larger amount,” said Hoeneß. Dreesen then said: “Not a penny more!”.
CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen had already admitted in a statement after the deal: “We reached for the ceiling.” Poker lasted six hours on the last day before Levy accepted “that we remain stubborn in this regard, and the plane that had been waiting for Harry in Stansted that morning could finally take off,” Hoeneß continued.
On August 11, Kane’s scheduled morning flight from London to Munich was delayed by several hours before the private plane took off in the early evening. FC Bayern then announced the transfer on August 12.
Kane also set a deadline
There had also been pressure from the player before. Kane, whose contract with Spurs only ran until 2024, had long since reached an agreement with Bayern and set a deadline for himself. “Harry said that morning: If we don’t have a solution by the evening, I’ll play for Tottenham on Sunday. And then it’s over, then I won’t sign a new contract with Tottenham and will go on a free transfer next year.”
Dreesen had already given an insight into the difficult transfer poker Levy when introducing Kane. “We never doubted Harry, he always kept his word. But there were moments in between when you wondered if it would go on.”
In the end, FC Bayern had to transfer the record fee of 100 million euros to London for the 30-year-old striker. However, Hoeneß did not want to confirm this. “The real cash sum that we are guaranteed to have to pay now is less than a hundred million. But if, for example, we become German champions or win the Champions League, it can still increase.” However, Dreesen himself had repeatedly spoken of “hundred millions”.
